This spring, schedule family travel around Earth Day and book a stay at an eco-friendly hotel. While looking for destinations and places to stay, keep these two eco-friendly hotels in mind!
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa
Leave all your worries behind and head to Maui for the ultimate relaxing getaway. Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa is a longtime leader in eco-friendly and sustainable efforts. It was the first resort in Hawai’i and first large-scale beach resort in the world to be awarded the U.S. Green Building Council TRUE Waste Precertification.
In 2020, it was recertified using USGBC’s new ongoing performance Arc, a digital tool that measures sustainability performance from buildings to cities and more. It is also one of the two Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold resorts in the state.
Recently, during a two-year, multimillion-dollar renovation, the resort diverted more than 5 million pounds of waste from the Maui landfill by donating more than 1,716 tons of furniture, artwork, mattresses and more to local charities and businesses. Over the past couple of years, Hyatt Regency Maui implemented sustainability efforts in various categories such as food, water, materials, recycling, renewable energy and more.
Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barth
Located on the beautiful island of St. Barth, Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barth offers L’Eau du Carl, water “made” in Le Carl in an effort to be more sustainable and eco-conscious. On property, there is a system of machines that recover the humidity in the ambient air to transform it into water. The process creates water free from chemicals, chlorine and pollutants. The water is then bottled in the resort’s organic and 100 percent recyclable glass, which can be found throughout the resort and minibar.
