Whether taking a daytrip to Singapore on your Asian tour or settling in for a long family trip, this incredible island city has so much to offer. Singapore boasts an eclectic set of attractions amid a tropical climate and booming financial district.

Sticking to a budget in Singapore should be no problem with the myriad hawker markets, public transportation options and bargain shopping centers. Check out some of the top sites with the family for free, including a visit the historic cricket field, established in the 1830s. Take in the city’s grand architecture on a family tour of the surrounding metropolis, including a stop at City Hall’s iconic 18 Corinthian columns.

Begin at any one of the popular hawker centers for food and drinks, a great way to try local cuisine on a budget. Tekka Center in Singapore’s Little India section provides a colorful variety of Indian dishes, shops and stalls. Shop from stall to stall while trying fresh fruits, local delicacies, Halal and fresh juices. Menu options range from $3–10.

Head upstairs to the higher floors of the market for unique shops selling everything from silk saris to Bollywood music. After filling up on Indian fare and merchandise, head out to the many amazing sights of Singapore.

Enjoy a walk in the Gardens by the Bay and Marina Reservoir for fantastic views and a bit of exercise with the kids. Need more nature? Take a short walk to theSingapore Botanical Gardens and MacRitchie Reservoir Park for miles of outdoor trails or check out the natural beauty surrounding the freestanding bridge at Treetop Walk.

Be sure to venture into Chinatown for a look at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. The opulent, red-and-gold Temple is believed to be home to one of Buddha’s teeth and is a must-see while in Singapore.

For some nightly entertainment, head to Clarke Quay, known as the party hub of Singapore. Stop in nightclubs and bars boasting various drink specials with adult children, or put the kids to bed before heading out. Little Saigon offers half-priced drinks before 8 p.m., while happy hour drinks at Verve Pizza come with a free pizza.
