Deep in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, not far from North Conway, Story Land is a magical town built for kids, offering fun for family travelers. Amid the scenic and natural attractions, Story Land is like stepping into another world.
Younger kids can meet Mother Hubbard inside her fully furnished shoe or be part of the Mad Tea Party as they swirl around in Alice’s Twirling Tea Cups. Real piglets inhabit houses of brick, wood and straw, and Heidi’s grandfather welcomes them to an Alpine hut. Nearby is another twirling ride inside a chalet.
Families can navigate Swan Boats around a small lake and kids can play house inside a 12-foot-tall pumpkin (with a kitchen), one of the many original works of art making up this magic village. What sets Story Land apart from other theme parks is it was designed and created right here. We never stop marveling at the creativity and finesse of the village the Morrell family began creating in 1954.
Story Land has grown steadily, expanding to add rides — all themed — to appeal to older children and teens. In this safe environment, teens can head for the thrill rides, while parents ride with younger kids in a pumpkin coach that climbs the hill to Cinderella’s Castle for photos with Cinderella.
The dozens of options include an old-fashioned carousel, a cruise on a pirate boat and a ride down a chute on a bamboo raft “driven” by a panda. On the Roar-O-Saurus, a dinosaur leads the cars over a 1,242-foot-long track to 40-foot heights through a land inhabited by animated dinosaurs. More peaceful, but among the most popular with kids, is the chance to “drive” their parents in an antique car.
