“Summer in Alaska is something special, and seeing it by train takes that to another level. Every route we run is meant to connect travelers not just to places, but to unforgettable experiences,” said Robin Moore, marketing communications manager, Alaska Railroad. “From the salty sea air and fjords of Seward to the wide-open spaces near Denali National Park, our trains give people a front-row seat to the best of the state.”
Four different routes include:
- Coastal Classic Train travels daily between Anchorage and Seward through Sept. 14. This route runs along Turnagain Arm and heads into the backcountry, offering views of mountains, rivers and wildlife. Off the train, explore Seward, then board the train back to Anchorage with dinner and drinks onboard.
- Denali Star Train offers northbound and southbound service between Anchorage and Fairbanks through Sept. 18 with stops in Wasilla, Talkeetna and at the gates of Denali National Park and Preserve. A highlight is crossing Hurricane Gulch Bridge, a 296-foot-high trestle offering breathtaking views.
- The Glacier Discovery Train runs through Sept. 15, making stops in Girdwood, Whittier, Portage, Spencer Glacier and Grandview. This route also visits Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop, a remote stop in Chugach National Forest, for guided rafting trips.
- As the last flagstop train in the United States, Hurricane Turn Train runs Thursday through Monday through Sept. 15. It departs Talkeetna and travels to Southcentral Alaska before turning around at Hurricane. It’s a favorite for hikers and campers.
