Experts at Family Destinations Guide analyzed Instagram hashtag data and TripAdvisor ratings and reviews of 600 mountainous destinations in the United States to compile the Peak Score, resulting in the mountain-climbing destination ranking.
The top 10 mountain-climbing destinations in the United States are:
- Mount Rainier (Washington)
- Haleakala Crater (Hawai’i)
- Lookout Mountain (Georgia/Tennessee)
- Grand Teton (Wyoming)
- Camelback Mountain (Arizona)
- Mount Washington (Pennsylvania)
- Maroon Bells (Colorado)
- Cadillac Mountain (Maine)
- Mauna Kea Summit (Hawai’i)
- Clingmans Dome (North Carolina/Tennessee)
Mount Rainer topped the list, due in part to its high number of Instagram hashtags. Haleakala Crater had the most reviews on TripAdvisor, contributing to its second-place finish.
