Family travel is on the rise with COVID-19 restrictions letting up and spring break right around the corner. This means families beginning to travel once more will leave their houses vulnerable to damage or theft. Here are some tips to make sure your house is safe while away.
Smart Locks
With the installation of a smart lock, it will help quiet those voices asking if you remembered to lock the door when you left or not. Most smart locks allow you to check the status of your door from your smartphone. You can also unlock the door from your phone if a neighbor or family friend is coming by to check on the house or water your plants.
Light Illusions
If you leave a couple lights on to make it look like someone is inside, it will most likely keep unwanted guests out. There are plenty of devices that allow you to put a timer on the lights or turn them off and on from your phone.
Regulating Temperatures
Houseplants and pets left with a pet sitter who might not be there all day will need the temperature changed depending on the weather outside. Upgrading to a smart thermostat will help you control the temperature from anywhere.
Trusted Neighbor
It is always smart to let a trusted neighbor know you are going away so they can keep an eye on the house. Whether you ask them to pick up your mail, packages or just to keep a lookout for anything suspicious going on around the house, letting someone nearby know of your absence is a good idea.
