Before the kids start getting ready to go back to school, set out on one last summer family road trip down iconic Route 66.
To get the most out of the trip, head to Oklahoma (it has more miles of Route 66 than any other state). Oklahoma City brings the road’s legacy to life thanks to its history, culture and charm.
Kick off the trip with stops at Route 66’s famous landmarks like The Gold Dome and Milk Bottle Grocery for one-of-a-kind photo opportunities. Tower Theatre is the perfect stop for movie and music lovers. The theater opened in 1947 and is a popular venue for live performances today. History lovers will want to stop at the State Capitol Complex to check out The Guardian, a 17.5-foot-tall bronze statue representing the 39 Oklahoma tribal nations.
POPS 66 Soda Ranch is also a must-stop during the trip. Take a picture with the 66-foot neon soda bottle and discover more than 500 different sodas. Foodies will love the dishes at Cheever’s Café and Classen Grill, both offering rich history and local cuisine.
Looking ahead, in 2026, Route 66 will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Salvaged stays are an emerging trend in travel that let family travelers enjoy a unique way to experience a destination. These renovated properties are a lesson in sustainability and give families a chance to discover a unique view of the history of a destination.
