Wisconsin has long been a family favorite for summer getaways, but many visitors don’t see past the resorts and theme parks at places like Wisconsin Dells. For the more adventurous family travelers who want to enjoy the great outdoors and a chance to do some good old-fashioned family bonding, Lake Emrick Campground is the perfect place.
Close enough to enjoy the attractions at Wisconsin Dells (only about 30 minutes away by car), the campground at Emrick Lake is the perfect jumping off point to enjoy Central Wisconsin, but there is so much to do at the lake, you might just want to spend your whole trip at camp. The campground features a playground, shooting range, frisbee golf course and petting zoo, not to mention the waterslide and aquapark situated right on the lake. There is even a swimming pool for those who want to take a break from the lake itself. An outdoor movie screen provides nighttime entertainment, and you can grab a meal at the on-site restaurant, pizza place or coffee/doughnut shop.
Located in the city of Oxford, the campground sits on 454 acres and has been in operation since the 1970s, mostly as a scout camp called Camp Freeland Leslie. While the property changed hands several times throughout the years, the new owners revamped the site to provide what they hope to be “the most amazing camping experience possible — through exceptional service and unmatched amenities.”
With its reopening this summer as Emrick Lake Campground, it is one of the largest campgrounds in the state with 500 RV sites and tent sites. Each site comes with all the amenities to make camp life fun like firepits, picnic tables and sewer and water hook ups. Each camp site also includes electricity and WiFi, so everyone can rough it without having to fully disconnect from the world around them.
The campground is pet-friendly with an on-site dog park. Golf carts are available for rent to help you get around the campground to enjoy everything it has to offer. Paddleboat and kayak rentals are also available so you can get out and spend some time on the water.
