Sometimes you and your special someone just want to get away. There is, after all, something intriguing and romantic about hitting the open road with nothing but each other and a map in front of you — a special kind of family travel. And a van fully loaded with everything you need to make it happen. With Roadsurfer’s line of camper vans, the world is at your fingertips and you can easily turn that dream into a reality.
My husband and I recently wanted a short getaway but didn’t have much of a plan. We weren’t really interested in being confined to a hotel during our trip and wanted the freedom of our own space without having to stay home. In short, we were looking for a camper van and didn’t even know it.
With Roadsurfer, we found everything we needed in its Liberty Lodge van. These sleep up to four and come fully equipped with a kitchenette and bathroom that includes a shower, although you also have the option of using the outdoor shower for more space.
We camped in an RV park and found the van was perfectly suited for RV living at the park, which included power and water hookups, as well as dumping stations for draining the waste from the van. The inside, which had just enough space considering it is a Class B RV Sprinter van and not a full-sized RV, was perfect for the two of us and our dog, who made himself right at home and had no trouble whatsoever adjusting to living in a van for four days.
The pop-up top opened up into a spacious and comfortable sleeping space, making it perfect for a family of four, and we were pleasantly surprised to learn both the fold-up bed and the pop-up sleeping space were exceptionally comfortable. The camper chairs and outdoor table included with the van made sitting outside at night and gazing at the starry sky a wonderful reality.
As first-timers — neither of us had ever used any type of camper van or RV before — we found everything about Roadsurfer to be super easy to learn and navigate. Once our booking was confirmed (everything can be done online), we received a tutorial that showed us everything we needed to know to operate the van. Pick up, for us at the Los Angeles (the city of Hawthorne, to be exact) location, was a breeze and drop-off was even smoother. Once you are on the road, you can access your tutorial anytime along with Roadsurfer assistance and customer support.
In addition to the Los Angeles station where we picked up our Roadsurfer, the company, originally launched in Munich, Germany, in 2016, has rental stations in Las Vegas and San Francisco (both opened March of this year), along with two in Canada (Vancouver and Calgary), both opened in May of this year. While the Liberty Lodge sleeps four comfortably, the Family Freedom van sleeps five, and the Horizon Hopper has all-wheel drive with off-road capabilities.
Our itinerary took us from Los Angeles to southern Utah, where we visited Zion National Park and the surrounding area. Camping in the Roadsurfer gave us an incredibly cozy experience and the flexibility to call all the shots on our trip, not to mention the bonding time we shared as a couple was great for our relationship. We hadn’t even finished the trip before we started planning our next adventure together and coming up with more great itineraries for exploring the country in a Roadsurfer.
