Multigenerational

With a 26,000-acre national park and vast lakes spanning the region, Killarney is emerging as the place for family travelers to experience the natural beauty of west Ireland up close. In the center of County Kerry, Ireland, Killarney continues to grow in popularity among locals and visitors alike, especially in summer.

From cycling under the blooming trees in the national park in springtime to kayaking on the crystal-clear waters of Lough Leane in the summer, the activities are endless. Sitting on the edge of one of the lakes is historic Ross Castle, where you can tour and see how medieval families once lived in the 15th century. Ross Castle overlooks one of the great lakes of Killarney, and the bobbing boats on the coast await anyone wanting a more in-depth experience of the lakes, taking guests along the edges of mountains and under stone bridges, pointing out all the wildlife found around the lakes. Eagles grace some of the trees atop the mountainsides hugging the lakes.

Every kid gets excited when they see wildlife, and Killarney is no stranger to the various animals that graze the woods and fields. The ducks near Ross Castle frequently stay near the water, creating the perfect spot for kids to feed them on sunny days. Killarney’s park also means vast trails for pony trekking, carriage rides and deer spotting.

For the more adventurous, Killarney is home to some of the most spectacular mountains and waterfalls in Ireland. Hike to Torc Waterfall to take in its splendor or visit the elegant Muckross House and Gardens to experience the grandeur of an Irish estate.
