Camping is synonymous with summer; it gives family travelers the chance to spend time together exploring nature and going on adventures. While most camping experiences involve pitching a tent somewhere in the wilderness, Floating Sea Camp on Catalina Island takes a unique approach by taking the camp out on the water for an experience exploring the best of both land and sea.
Santa Catalina Island, located in the deep blue waters of the Pacific just off the coast of Southern California, is a camper’s dream. With a rugged landscape and waters teeming with marine life, it is the ideal destination for outdoorsy families looking for both a fun and educational experience.
Floating Sea Camp takes campers out on the water aboard Enhydra, a combination hotel/marine research vessel. While on board, families enjoy catered meals and private staterooms, along with activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and surfing. At night, families are entertained with stargazing, astronomy lessons, storytelling and interactive family-oriented games. And while the camp is primarily a water-based experience, there is still plenty of island time with hiking, natural science tours and beach excursions built into the program.
The camp is operated by a knowledgeable team of naturalists dedicated to building character in kids and teaching others about nature. They guide each guest through activities, ensuring they are safe and have fun while learning about the importance of protecting and preserving the world around us.
The camp, which docks at the island’s beautiful Whites Landing, offers three summer sessions for families to let you make the most of the holiday weekends – Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. Each camping program runs for three days and two nights, and prices range from $319 for kids and $405 for adults aged 17 and older.
