Family Fun in Arkansas

While family travelers might not first think of Arkansas as a vacation destination, it’s time to reconsider. Offering outdoor adventures and educational excursions, Arkansas is an excellent option for multigenerational travelers.

In Murfreesboro, two unique opportunities await families. At Ka-Do-Ha Village Museum, enjoy a hands-on educational and archeological experience. The museum features artifacts, like pottery jars, pipes and stone tools, left behind by prehistoric populations, with activities often turning up crystals and arrowheads.

The treasure hunting can continue at nearby Crater of Diamonds State Park, one of the few places around the globe open to the public to search for real diamonds in the original volcanic source. The 37-acre field of eroded volcanic surface is ripe for exploration for rocks, minerals and gemstones — finders, keepers.

For more educational, outdoorsy fun, Hot Springs National Park serves up history, nature and enjoyment. The country’s oldest national park, Hot Springs Reservation was established on April 20, 1832, to protect the hot springs flowing from the southwestern slope of Hot Springs Mountain. The park boasts 47 thermal springs, scenic drives, hot water cascades, more than 30 miles of hiking trails and picnic areas.
