Luxury

In Peru’s Sacred Valley of the Incas sits an oasis worth a visit in its own right — Tambo del Inka Resort & Spa. A member of The Luxury Collection and Starwood Preferred Guest, the multilevel resort even boasts its own private train station to Machu Picchu.

After checking into the resort, retreat to your own, well, retreat. The spacious guestrooms, ranging from deluxe to senior suites, are warmly and comfortably appointed and overlook either the Urubamba River or the Vilcanota Mountains. Each of the guestrooms has a patio or balcony from which to enjoy the views, spacious bathrooms and complimentary WiFi. Up to two children under the age of 12 stay with their parents complimentary as well.

If you feel compelled to leave your room, venture around the resort and find an emerald lagoon and gardens blooming along the river. Or, simply opt for some relaxation in the Kallpa Spa, where you can indulge in a variety of treatments ranging from massage therapies to lymphatic drainage to a 24k gold facial. The spa’s facilities also include heated indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpools and Vichy and jet showers to add to the relaxation.

Dining at Tambo del Inka is unmatched in Urubamba, with Peruvian cuisine in the spotlight at Hawa Restaurant and the Kiri Bar, which features an extensive gin and tonic menu. For more of a deep dive into the flavors of Peru, sign up for the Farm to Table Experience and join the resort’s chef on a walk to the farm where you’ll help prepare local ingredients that will lend flavors to the Andean meal you’ll enjoy.

If your visit to the Sacred Valley includes a visit to Machu Picchu, make arrangements to depart from Tambo del Inka’s private train station. You’ll ride in style in 1920s-style carriages with all of the luxuries found at the resort to enjoy along the way, including an Observation Bar Car and Dining Car. The train departs Urubamba at 10:30 a.m. and returns at just after 10:30 p.m.

Aside from Machu Picchu, the resort’s concierge is ready to help you plan your time in the Sacred Valley — take a tour of additional sites around the former Inca Empire, or get your blood pumping with mountain biking, white water rafting and kayaking. In Urubamba, the choice is truly yours, and the team at Tambo del Inka will make it happen.
