Multigenerational

Alexandria, Virginia’s, Old Town neighborhood is a great spot for family travel. Located along the Potomac River, the historic district offers a variety of family-friendly activities to enjoy during your visit.

King Street is the neighborhood’s walkable main drag, home to more than 200 restaurants and shops. Take the free King Street Trolley for an alternative view of the popular street.

Check out some of the city’s most interesting museums including the Carlyle House, a social hub of the 1700s, and Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, a former hotel that hosted five U.S. presidents. Purchase a Key to the City attractions pass. For $20, the pass includes access to nine different historic sites, 40 percent discounts at additional attractions and a 10 percent off coupon at 11 different museum stores.

If your family isn’t afraid of a scare, book a ghost tour to learn more about Old Town’s haunted history. If art is more your speed, visit the Torpedo Factory Art Center, a collection of working artist studios housed in a former World War II torpedo factory.

Old Town’s restaurant scene has something for every palate. Choose from waterfront dining, historic restaurants, sweet treats, international cuisine and more on and off King Street. Visit Old Town Farmers’ Market, the longest continually operated farmers market in the country. Held every Saturday morning, the market boasts fresh produce, locally made goods and crafts.

Check out the calendar for more information about events happening during your visit.
