Zion National Park is one of the most popular destinations in the country, and for good reason. The park is home to unique sites like Weeping Rock and Checkerboard Mesa, as well as sought-after activities like hiking the Subway or Angel’s Landing. One of the newest RV parks in the area, Gateway Luxury RV Park gives family travelers the perfect base camp so you can focus on what really matters — making the most out of your vacation experience and exploring different parts of this beautiful park.
The resort, just opened in March of this year, sits at the bottom of the Laverkin Twist, a portion of State Road 9 that takes you from the town of LaVerkin up to Zion National Park. I chose the park for its convenience on my latest trip to Zion and quickly learned it was ideal in so many other ways as well. Not only were the rates affordable (and stay the same year-round so you don’t pay more during the high season), but there were also plenty of amenities to keep us busy when we weren’t off exploring.
Gateway features everything you need in a good RV park — water, power and sewage hook ups; laundry facilities; and some of the cleanest restrooms with full showers I have ever encountered at a campground. There were also plenty of details that made our stay so enjoyable, we extended it a few extra days. A beautiful swimming pool designed with a picturesque rock formation as the centerpiece is a pleasant homage to the geological formations of Southern Utah, and the cornhole and pickleball courts offered plenty of family entertainment. Even our dog enjoyed his stay thanks to the on-site dog park.
In addition to the 81 RV spots, which can accommodate all sizes of RVs and camper vans, the resort also has 16 casitas if you want to get out of your vehicle and enjoy more of a home-like stay. These duplex-style units offer all the luxuries of a vacation rental with one exception — they each come equipped with a fridge and microwave, but don’t have any type of cooking area.
There are, however, great eateries in the immediate area, as well as plenty along the road to Zion and in nearby Hurricane and St. George. The clubhouse, where you check in and can purchase not just your average sundries but also great local products as well, can provide great recommendations for places to enjoy a good meal.
From the resort, it only takes about 15 minutes (without traffic or the construction happening during our visit) to get up to Zion National Park. The location was ideal and, with the town of LaVerkin just outside our door, there were plenty of services for anything that did — or might have — come up. We were able to pick up a great cup of coffee from a local coffee roaster within walking distance from the resort at River Rock Roasting Company and there was a mobile RV repairman in town who made house calls to several patrons during our stay.
