Not everyone is dreaming of a white Christmas. If you want an escape from the cold winter weather this holiday season, check out these holiday experiences in the southern United States for a unique celebration.
Key West, Florida
Take part in the 31st Annual Lighted Boat Parade. The competition features a collection of boats illuminated with custom lights. A panel of judges awards the best display. Located at the historic Seaport, the Harbor Walk of Lights is another light display with lighted palm trees and other unique lighted decorations. Christmas trees constructed out of lobster traps, crab traps and boats honor Key West’s culture.
St. Augustine, Florida
In its 28th year, St. Augustine’s Night of Lights illuminates 20 blocks of downtown St. Augustine. The free event takes places Nov. 20–Jan. 31, 2022. The small white lights highlight the city’s Spanish colonial architecture.
The Palm Beaches, Florida
The Palm Beaches of Florida are comprised of 39 towns and cities in the southeastern part of the state. The beaches offer holiday fun for the entire family. Visit Sandi Claus, a 35-foot Christmas tree constructed out of 700 tons of sand, in West Palm Beach. Following the annual December tree lighting, Sandi Claus comes alive with a nightly light show. Head to Delray Beach to see its famous 100-foot Christmas tree decked out with 15,000 LED lights. Experience the festive holiday display in the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Resort & Spa lobby, including a life-sized gingerbread house.
Savannah, Georgia
Visit the Savannah Christmas Market. Held Nov. 26–Jan. 6, 2022, the second annual market features holiday-themed events and performances. The market is inspired by the traditional Christmas market in Salzburg, Austria.
Crystal Coast, North Carolina
Take part in the 28th annual Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla. Participants decorate yachts, kayaks and other sailing vessels for the season. The event takes places Dec. 4, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Dallas, Texas
The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas is home to a life-sized gingerbread house, located in the property’s lobby. Each Friday in December, Mr. and Mrs. Claus visit the lobby for live music and other holiday treats.
