Baby

It’s a parenting woe and an ironic fact a child’s size is indirectly proportional to the size of all the tools and equipment he or she needs. Anyone who’s ever carted a stroller, car seat or booster seat on a plane, train or even in the car knows what I mean.

Martinhal Family Hotels and Resorts, a collection of 5-star luxury family hotels in Portugal, which already appeals to parents of newborns and infants with on-site child care called Crèche, a complimentary kids’ club, mommy and me spa treatments, curated kids’ menus and homemade puréed baby food, now tackles the schlepping dilemma with a brand-new service.

They developed The Baby Concierge to make traveling with small ones as effortless as possible. It gives parents the opportunity to pre-order baby products prior to arrival, including baby cribs, safety gates, door protectors, baby baths, food products, potties, thermometers and bottle sterilizers and warmers, which will be ready at check-in. (The resorts also have other items for sale, from lotions to diapers, in the Mercado.)

Each property is unique. The Sagres hotel is a family-friendly beach resort located in a protected natural park; the one in Quinta do Lago has a collection of private villas; elegant Chiado is in the middle of one of Lisbon’s trendiest districts; and Cascais offers the best of Cascais, Estoril and Lisbon, featuring a 5-star hotel and a selection of luxury family villas. Families wanting to experience different regions of Portugal will be happy to learn if they travel to other Martinhal properties, these items can be made available at each of the hotels so you don’t have to lug them around Portugal. For more information, email their concierge team.

In addition, the hotels’ five Kids Clubhouses are run by experienced caregivers and speak to the brand’s philosophy of allowing kids to be inquisitive and explore with toys, games and puzzles to occupy tiny minds, as well as healthy snacks. Those aged 2 to 5 can do age-appropriate activities in the Raposinhos club (the name means “little fox), while kids aged 6 to 9 can have fun when they are out of school with indoor and outdoor activities in the Fox Club. There are clubs for tweens and teens, too. And the Kid’s Corner lets children run, play and let off some energy while parents can sip a glass of wine or cup of coffee. After mom and dad has relaxed or engaged in a yoga or wellness activity, everyone can reconvene for some quality family time. You can book space in the clubs upon arrival, though it’s recommended to do it in advance to secure a spot.

Where to Tiptoe Through Tulips in the United States

First brought to the United States by Dutch immigrants in the late 1600s, tulips have become a colorful symbol of spring throughout the country and a popular spring and summer spot for family travelers. You don’t need to travel far to find them blooming in front yards and, in spring, displays of tulips paint parks and botanic gardens from Maine to Texas. A few places go all out with annual tulip festivals that are perfect spring trips for families.

United Airlines Celebrates its First Class of United Aviate Graduates

As the only major U.S. airline to own a flight school, United Airlines already hit a major milestone, and now the carrier celebrates another important — and historic — step as the inaugural class of United Aviate Academy pilots graduates, leading the next generation of aviators. The 51 students in the graduating class were majority, at 80 percent, women and people of color — another stride toward United’s goal of training 5,000 new pilots by 2030 with half women or POC.
