Destinations

It’s never too early to plan family travels exposing little ones to nature and the phenomena happening worldwide every day. One of the best ways to let kids see one of nature’s greatest moments is to bring them to destinations where massive migrations of species occur. Thanks to Nat Hab, a leader in responsible adventure travel, families can take in some of the most incredible wildlife spectacles on earth.

Nat Hab offers eco-conscious tours in partnership with the World Wildlife Foundation, led by experienced Expedition Leaders. So, what migrations can the whole family witness together?

Wandering Wildebeests in Kenya

Between July and September, go on the Great Migration Kenya Safari and explore East Africa’s wildlife wonderland. Here, millions of wildebeests and zebra journey between Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Maasai Mara Reserve. Expert leaders bring travelers on a multiday adventure immersing them in the migration patterns of wildlife. Guests will also spot crocodiles, lions and elephants, as well as learn about the Maasai people. Guests stay on private reserves in luxury mobile camps.

Rare Spirit Bears in Canada

Embark on a Spirit Bear Tour in British Columbia between September and October and see emerald fjords and hidden coves. The many valleys and rushing rivers are a food source for wildlife like eagles; grizzlies; wolves; and the ethereal Kermode bear, also known as the spirit bear. Local Gitga’at First Nations people guide travelers through the landscape to seek out these animals. Guests also gain a greater understanding of the cultural significance of the area to the Haisla, Tshimshian and Heiltsuk First Nations.

Gentle Giants in Baja

In February, Pacific gray whales cruise along Mexico’s Baja Peninsula in the annual migration spanning 10,000–12,000 miles. Migrations begin from the Arctic feeding grounds and end in the sheltered calving lagoons in Baja. Nat Hab travelers can see these great beasts up close on the Great Gray Whales of Baja tour, as well as learn about gray whales’ behaviors. These whales are known to approach the open boats, providing passengers with an intimate look at the gentle giants from above. The tour includes an overnight stay in a private whale cabana at a remote waterfront eco camp.
