Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort reopened April 1 following the completion of a multimillion-dollar, resort-wide renovation, the most extensive in the property’s history. The comprehensive refresh reimagined guest accommodations, shared spaces and wellness amenities and introduced expanded two-bedroom oceanfront bures to better serve family travelers.
“This renovation marks a meaningful evolution for the resort,” said Nigel Fisher, general manager, Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort. “We’ve thoughtfully enhanced the accommodations and shared spaces to better welcome extended families while preserving the intimate, culturally immersive experience that defines Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort.”
The transformation of five existing one-bedroom oceanfront bures into spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom, ocean-facing accommodations was a highlight of the renovation. The new residences feature indoor-outdoor living areas with extended decks, daybeds and outdoor dining for six.

Bures were rethatched to enhance durability and preserve their beauty, while interiors now feature refinished millwork and flooring, painting, modern lighting, and new bedding and linens. Traditional magimagi, the woven coconut-fiber rope central to Fijian craftsmanship, was incorporated into beams and pillars throughout the accommodations and public areas to celebrate local heritage.
The renovation expanded the resort’s wellness offerings with the introduction of a 900-square-foot, ocean-facing, air-conditioned fitness center overlooking Savusavu Bay, boasting a variety of cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights and stretching accessories. Tennis, pickleball and basketball courts were also resurfaced.
Inspired by Fijian cultural traditions and the surroundings, refreshed interiors blend handcrafted textures and locally sourced timbers. The reception, dining and main pool areas have been revitalized with updated furnishings, enhanced lighting, refreshed finishes and rebuilt decking. Landscaping throughout the property has also been thoughtfully restored.
