Instead of a typical family travel to see fall foliage or spooky destinations this month, switch it up and visit the best states to spot extraterrestrial life. Based on data from the National UFO Reporting Center, travel experts at Travel Lens determined the best states for travelers to visit in the United States for possible UFO sightings.
California was named the best state to visit for a chance at spotting a UFO. From saucers to strange sources of lights, there have been 15,457 UFO reports since 1998, the highest in the country.
Florida, a long way behind, has had 7,790 reported UFO sightings over the last 24 years. Even though this is about 50 percent less sightings than California, it constitutes enough sightings that you might be able to experience the next one.
The third-best place for sightings is Washington. The Evergreen State has a jaw-dropping 6,885 UFO reports in recorded history. Texas comes next in the search for extraterrestrial life, with 5,805 reports. New York follows closely behind with 5,618.
If you are on the East Coast, pay a visit to Pennsylvania to experience the unknown. There have been 4,769 UFO reports over the last few decades. Arizona, Ohio and Illinois come in with just more than 13,000 reports over the years, making them next on the list. Lastly, Michigan comes in 10th place on the list of UFO spotting, with people reporting 3,485 sightings.
A spokesperson for Travel Lens said, “It may come as a surprise to some that California takes the top spot by some distance when it comes to the number of UFO reports. There have been almost 5,000 reports worldwide this year and counting, which shows that there is still a very clear belief in UFOs. Now, we’re not saying that if you visit these states it’s guaranteed you’ll catch an alien in the flesh. But the numbers show us that the states in the top ten are yielding a huge number of sightings year after year. It’s definitely worth doing some research and visiting these states if you have a real interest in extraterrestrial life. Even if you don’t, it can be great fun with friends and family to visit new places and explore all they have to offer.”
