Boutique hotels seem to be all the rage these days, and for good reason. Whether traveling solo or with the whole family, boutique hotels offer a charming place to stay far from the boring, cookie-cutter hotels you probably grew up with. Last month, a brand-new boutique hotel opened in Cumberland, Maryland, and it marks the first of its kind for the region.
The Wills Hotel is located in a Victorian-era building in Cumberland’s historic downtown neighborhood. It’s not only giving new life to the historic building, but it’s also part of the city’s efforts to revitalize Cumberland to create a wonderful place to be, whether a resident or a visitor exploring the “Mountain Side of Maryland.”
The hotel only has 20 rooms, each designed for comfort, and the hotel captures the history of the building with things like the on-site restaurant, 1867 – A Modern Chophouse. The name was chosen after a brick bearing the date April 7, 1867, was uncovered during the building’s renovation process.
The location is ideal for families looking to experience the many great outdoor adventures the region is known for, like hiking or biking along Great Allegheny Passage or exploring nearby Rocky Gap State Park. Cumberland has long been a great spot to get the kids out enjoying nature, and now you’ve got a great boutique hotel to use as your basecamp that also brings the city’s past a bit closer.
