Luxury

Remote Lands launched a new collection of itineraries for luxury family travel in Asia. With options to suit all ages, the itineraries combine adventure, tours, culture and new experiences to give guests a comprehensive look at their destination.

The first itinerary takes travelers to Taiwan, on a nine-day adventure starting in Taipei. There, families make and taste Taiwanese cuisine, from pineapple cakes to bubble tea; visit the village that inspired Spirited Away; release sky lanterns; and pay a visit to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. Then, it’s off to Kaohsiung, a coastal destination steeped in Hakka culture, for the opportunity to try your hand at the local handicrafts, cuisine and pineapple production. Other highlights include stops at Shilin Night Market, Sun Moon Lake and the largest Buddhist monastery in the country.

The second combines visits to both Singapore and Malaysia over 12 days. Families enjoy trip stops at the Singapore ArtScience Museum, the Petrosains Discovery Center, Cameron highlands, Kuala Lumpur’s Heritage Zone, Penang and Langkawi. Activities include gondola rides, relaxing on the beach, molding pewter bowls at the royal pewter factory, climbing to the highest temples and trekking through the forests.

The Family Sri Lanka tour takes travelers through various Sri Lankan cities over 13 days. Relax in Negombo at a luxurious resort and spa, visit baby elephants at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, jeep through the Minneriya National Park, snorkel off Pigeon Island, watch the marine wildlife off Trincomalee, tour the ruins of Anuradhapura and see the museums of Kandy.

Lastly, a 10-day immersive trip to Thailand starts in Bangkok, before families are whisked away to Chiang Mai to explore the history, cuisine, wildlife and more. The trip closes with a secluded getaway at Soneva Kiri resort, for fine dining, snorkeling, cruising, the beach and spa.

“Traveling is one of the best ways for children and adults alike to gain new perspectives and enrich their minds. We see a major growth opportunity for family trips to Asia and with our new family-friendly itineraries, exploring the world becomes experiential learning, where leisure activities turn into educational opportunities and routine experiences into memorable challenges,” said Catherine Heald, co-founder and CEO, Remote Lands. “Families will be exposed to new lands and cultures, interacting with locals, encountering exciting challenges and stepping out of their comfort zones. We are excited to introduce these enriching journeys that will help broaden the minds of tomorrow.”

You don’t need to travel far to find them blooming in front yards and, in spring, displays of tulips paint parks and botanic gardens from Maine to Texas. A few places go all out with annual tulip festivals that are perfect spring trips for families.

United Airlines Celebrates its First Class of United Aviate Graduates

As the only major U.S. airline to own a flight school, United Airlines already hit a major milestone, and now the carrier celebrates another important — and historic — step as the inaugural class of United Aviate Academy pilots graduates, leading the next generation of aviators. The 51 students in the graduating class were majority, at 80 percent, women and people of color — another stride toward United’s goal of training 5,000 new pilots by 2030 with half women or POC.
