New Science Museum Coming to Jacksonville, Florida

First announced in 2025, Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville, Florida, is officially relocating and expanding, bringing elevated educational experiences to families. The new, $131-million-plus MOSH will be located on the city’s Northbank.

The new MOSH will span 7.2 acres with both indoor and outdoor immersive learning space combining a museum, park and waterfront all in one. It’s currently the largest museum development project of its kind in Florida, covering a whopping 110,000 square feet. A massive and flexible gallery space will also be added, available to host state-of-the-art traveling exhibitions.

Within the new museum, visitors can expect a sweeping narrative connecting cosmic origins to Jacksonville’s future, showing how human ingenuity and natural forces shape our world. Hands-on environments encouraging play and experimentation will be at the center of the museum. Visitors will also be able to explore how animal adaptations inspire breakthroughs in human technology, medicine and design. Kids can test their own speed, agility and strength against nature’s best, as well as discover how shark skin inspires medical surfaces or how spider silk informs material science.

The current museum sat next to the city’s recently reopened Friendship Fountain on the Southbank, is permanently closed and set to be razed.
