New Winter Adventures Await at This 37,000-Acre Montana Ranch

This winter, Paws Up Montana, a sprawling ranch in the heart of Greenough, transforms into a wilderness playground with some exciting experiences lined up for family travelers.

The ranch features a unique fusion of cross-country skiing and target shooting, called backcountry biathlon, which guests can take part in. Paws Up Montana also offers snowmobiling across untouched terrain, MoonBikes (electric snow bikes) across the snow, classic dogsledding and even cross-country skiing.

For family fun, opt for some mountain tubing and ice skating at Blast Mountain, or compete in equestrian games like Cow Croquet indoors at the ranch’s Saddle Arena. Other fun, all-ages activities include curling, broom hockey, guided snowshoeing tours, ice fishing and more.

And after a day full of thrills, families can retreat to world-class accommodations like the ranch’s Meadow Homes. Perfect for small families, these 1,100-square-foot homes come with dual master suites, full kitchens and private hot tubs. Larger families should consider Wilderness Estates or Big Timber Homes; these properties are spacious, Western-chic residences with multiple bedrooms, fireplaces, lofts and game rooms.

Looking ahead, the ranch will host WinterFest Feb. 20–22. During this weekend-long event, expect winter activities paired with cozy comforts. Families can even book the WinterFest package, which includes three nights of accommodations; all daily meals; non-alcoholic beverages; and a selection of beer, wine and well liquors. Live music, round-trip transportation from Missoula International Airport and private use of a luxury Lexus SUV are also included in the package.
