Located in western India, Ahmedabad is the largest city in the state of Gujarat with a wealth of opportunity for travelers. All ages can find something to do, see and explore, but for those looking for a few quick hits and suggestions, explore the history, culture, nature and family-friendly oddities the city has to offer.
History and Culture
Visiting mosques and temples in Ahmedabad can take several days to do — there are so many beautiful structures to see. Known as one of the most illustrious mosques in the city, Jama Mosque was built in the early 1400s and showcases some of the best Indo-Islamic architecture in the city.
Next up, Sarkhej Roza, located in Makarba village, is a beloved mosque and must-see while in the area. The historic tomb boasts early Islamic architecture and is deeply rooted in local culture.
Make a point to visit the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, or Sidi Saiyyid ni Jali, built in 1572 AD. As one of the most famous mosques in the city, Sidi Saiiyyed is a beautiful, walled building showcasing impressive hand-carved lattice work and sacred pools.
One of the most visited destinations in Gujarat is Adalaj Stepwell. The historic landmark is left over from the Dandai Desh dynasty, built in the late 1400s.
Museums and Oddities
The antique-car lovers in your family will not be able to skip the Auto World Vintage Car Museum on Sardar Patel Ring Road. Check out more than 100 different vintage cars in the old-world castle setting of the museum.
