Virginia has an ideal blend of everything family travelers could want on a vacation — fun activities, history, outdoor adventure, and a great food and entertainment scene. This year, however, the state has some new attractions, giving families even more reason to put it at the top of their travel plans for 2025, offering something for families with kids of all ages.
Science Museum of Virginia has an all-new exhibit kids of all ages will enjoy — the Towers of Tomorrow exhibit. This exhibit, opened last month and through Aug. 24, showcases 20 replicas of the world’s most famous skyscrapers made entirely from LEGO bricks. The exhibit is designed to inspire and encourage interest in STEM, architecture and engineering. The exhibit is included in a regular museum admission ticket, which is $17.50 for teens and adults, $14.50 for seniors and kids 6–12, and $10 for kids 3–5.
Kings Dominion in Doswell, one of the state’s most well-known amusement parks, celebrates 50 years this summer and, to mark the occasion, it unveils a brand-new ride, Rapterra. At 145 feet tall and 3,086 feet long, Rapterra will be the world’s longest and tallest launched winged roller coaster. Designed to give you the feeling of flying through the air like a jungle hawk, the ride features twists, turns and deep dives through a jungle landscape. Admission prices start at $42 for online tickets ($80 if you buy them at the park in person), and there are great deals, packages and season tickets.
Busch Gardens in Williamsburg also celebrates its 50th birthday in 2025, as well as a new coaster of its own, The Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge. Premiering this spring, this family-friendly, inverted roller coaster will cover more than 2,500 feet of track at speeds up to 40 mph as it takes passengers through an abandoned Bavarian village from the point of view of the Big Bad Wolf. This new ride is included with a regular park admission, which starts at $79.99 for online tickets, or you can get great deals on packages or multiday passes.
