Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa invites family travelers of all ages to experience the spirit of aloha and the beauty of its oceanfront property through new and existing experiences, incorporating the history of the island with modern-day sites and attractions.

Although Maui is an iconic and popular vacation destination, it wasn’t always. In the late 1950s, the island became a mainstay of the American Dream and continued to grow throughout the years as air travel increased after World War II and when Kāʻanapali became the designated resort area for Hawai’i. Sheraton Maui was the first resort built in the area and had a grand opening Jan. 23, 1963, with a star-studded celebration. Today, the resort’s history and spirit are celebrated through the hotel’s design, style and activities.

The hotel recently launched Kuleana Series, a first-of-its-kind, augmented-reality experience to deepen guests’ connection to Hawaiian culture through storytelling and education. The resort features QR-enabled plaques guests can scan to get access to “living portraits” that come to life on their phones. The experience begins with a welcome portrait and interactive map, and continues with 11 respected cultural educators and scientific experts, including Dr. Makana Silva, an astrophysicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory who shares his kuleana (responsibility) of maintaining the legacy of Hawaiian astronomers; Hi’ilani Shibata, Hawaiian cultural educator and co-founder of Ka Mahina Project, who tells the mo’olelo (traditional stories) of Hinahānaiakamalama, the Hawaiian goddess of the moon; and Ekolu Lindsey, president of Maui Cultural Lands, showcasing the living nature of coral reefs. Each feature honors the knowledge and culture of the Hawaiian people.

Sheraton Maui also encourages families to explore local landmarks and sites, like Pu’u Keka’a (Black Rock), as well as famous Kaanapali Beach, where families can watch the sunset cliff diving ceremony, swim in the lagoon-style pool and dive into Hawaiian culture through daily activities.

Back at the hotel, adults and little travelers alike will enjoy roasting s’mores under the stars, cooling down with a treat at Black Rock Shave Ice and spreading out in the spacious ‘Ohana Suite. The Ohana (Family) package helps make that possible. Highlights of the package include a stay in the ‘Ohana Suite featuring king or double beds, a separate living area with a sofa, a murphy bed, large bathroom, and outdoor lanai space; daily breakfast for four; a welcome cooler amenity; Sheraton Maui towels; reef-safe sunscreen; two ocean-themed plushies; s’mores kit; daily shave ice; and complimentary self-parking.
