Summer is the perfect time for family travel, with plenty of holidays, warm-weather destinations and exciting attractions and sites to experience. According to Vacasa’s 2022 Summer Travel Trends report, 63 percent of Americans plan to travel, with 85 percent of summer travelers planning to vacation more than last year.
Memorial Day is the official start to summer and one of the most popular travel holidays of the year. There is no surprise a lot of people are plan a trip for the long weekend. Most people flock to the beach to soak up the sun and celebrate the start of summer.
Vacasa found the top destinations for Memorial Day are:
- Destin, Florida
- Perdido Key, Florida
- Ocean City, Maryland
- Dauphin Island, Alabama
- Holden Beach, North Carolina
- Newport Beach, California
Mother’s and Father’s Day are coming up as well, and 62 percent of parents booked a weekend getaway in celebration of the holidays. Folly Beach, South Carolina, is the top destination for a Mother’s Day getaway while Bethany Beach, Delaware, is popular for dads looking for a Father’s Day retreat.
Although a lot of people are eager to get back out and explore the world, 20 percent of Americans still aren’t traveling due to COVID-19 concerns. Also, with gas prices so high, one in four Americans are waiting to see if gas prices go down before booking travel.
