Spread across 8 acres and offering a 700-foot private beach, The Jamaica Inn is one of the best in the Caribbean for family travelers. The inn takes pride in its stunning location and has worked to preserve its surroundings for the past 65 years. The property, family-owned and -operated by the Morrows, makes sustainability and giving back to its one-of-a-kind ecosystem a priority. For travelers looking to learn more about the local ecosystem and community, here are some opportunities the hotel offers.
Turtle Conservation
The Jamaica Inn facilitates both on- and off-site turtle hatching sessions to spread awareness about the endangered Hawksbill sea turtle. With help from the hotel’s resident turtle expert Mel Tennant, member of The Oracabessa Turtle Bay Project and Sanctuary, guests can experience the miracle of watching and helping baby turtles safely make their way to sea.
More than 100 nests and 16,000 recorded hatchlings per year can be seen along The Jamaica Inn’s beaches. Travelers and locals alike can follow the property’s turtle calendar for the hatching schedule.
Reef Rehabilitation
The Jamaica Inn partners with The White River Fish Sanctuary, a marine association dedicated to restoring the pristine beauty of the reefs, creating new coral growth and encouraging the return of tropical fish. Guests can embark on a glass-bottomed boat tour to see firsthand fresh growth from coral plantings.
Skin Foraging
The property recently launched a new Farm to Skin Foraging experience at The Ocean Spa, the first of its kind in the Caribbean. Guests are taken on a journey through the tropical gardens to help sustainably forage natural ingredients, then used to create spa products in their treatments.
Carbon Neutral
The Jamaica Inn is on track to become carbon neutral by the end of 2025. Recently, the property installed solar panels and a sustainable waste-water system.
