Part of the larger German Museum of Technology in Berlin, Science Center Spectrum is a wonderland of experiments and experiences for kids, and a favorite stop for family travelers in Germany.
The more than 150 interactive exhibits filling this entirely hands-on museum invite and challenge children as young as 4 to explore science, technology and things they see and use in everyday life. “Look and Touch” is the motto of the center, where the line between play and learning is a fine one.
The center is divided into eight themes, such as power, sound and light, exploring science with lively demonstrations and experiments, with enough in-depth information for older children who want to dig a little deeper. All explanations are available in both English and German.
Kids can create lightening and conduct electricity, try lifting parents by using ropes and pulleys, make their own dance music, defy gravity by building an arch, and experiment with optical illusions. Check the schedule for the Magic House — great for kids, but not for those inclined to motion sickness.
Even very young children will be entertained here by play features involving water, light, movement and noise.
Spectrum shares a ticket with the main technology museum, and older kids will enjoy some of the exhibits there, such as Repair!, This special program runs through September 2023 and centers on fixing instead of discarding things. The program also includes a workshop.
