It’s a common dilemma for many parents with summer approaching: Their child is ready for the adventure of a sleepaway camp, but maybe not quite ready for the “away” part. One ranch has the perfect solution.
Tanque Verde Ranch in Tucson, Arizona, has a special summer kids camp this year. The fully immersive, three-night experience is for kids aged 9–12, but parents are now invited to also stay on site in their own accommodations while their children attend camp.

This program is the ultimate safety net vacation. Kids can unplug, learn professional horsemanship from expert wranglers and build independence in a supervised bunkhouse setting. And all of this happens while parents can enjoy the Ranch’s authentic dude ranch activities, wellness offerings and gourmet dining.
Other experiences at camp include flag making, critter walk with flashlights, painting horseshoes, ranch trivia, pool time, team oiling saddles competition, ice cream making, cookout and s’mores, roping, friendship bracelet making and even a rattlesnake presentation with Ranger Rick.

The summer camp is a true deep dive into ranch life, from learning to tack and ride to exploring the Sonoran Desert and Saguaro National Park. This year’s summer camp is available June 18–21 and July 2–5, at $775 per child.
