If you think taking the family to London means you’ve got to settle for a stuffy, old-fashioned hotel during your stay, then you haven’t heard of St. Ermin’s. This charming hotel has been around since 1892 in the heart of London’s historic Westminster neighborhood, residing midway between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey.

As the property proclaims, it is “exactly like nothing else,” and this couldn’t more true. While the property is beautiful and full of aristocratic charm, it sets itself apart from the crowd with a family-centric approach and one particular quirk that makes it a fun surprise for any nature lover visiting a big city.

To find out what sets this property apart from the crowd, head to the rooftops to see where the permanent residents, more than 350,000 honeybees, live. While many of the bees live in hives, there are quite a few honey producers considered solitary bees who don’t live in hives. These little guys have their very own Bee & Bee hotel on the wall of the patio, and guests can view all of the winged creatures at work and at rest from safely behind glass. The hotel harvests the honey and uses it in the kitchen for food and beverages.

It isn’t just the bees and their hives that make the hotel a unique stay for families at St. Ermin’s. It is also the hotel’s commitment to treat every guest like an individual so they feel special and welcome and, for little ones, they accomplish this with their Kids Concierge service. This program is designed to make sure families and young guests have everything they need, from in-room amenities like baby and toddler essentials to a collection of children’s books for a bedtime story.
