This summer, family travelers flock to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for the ultimate family trip. The city is known for its public art scene, friendly culture and variety of accessible experiences.

Hattiesburg recently opened its first inclusive park. Midtown Green is a 4.5-acre, multiuse park with walking trails, an ADA-accessible playground, open fields, small amphitheater and seating areas. The park is a safe space and invites children of all abilities to play together.
Additionally, Hattiesburg Zoo is Mississippi’s first zoo certified by KultureCity, a nonprofit organization helping venues add inclusive elements. The zoo has scheduled sensory days where guests can get sensory bags at the zoo office, which have noise-canceling headphones, fidget objects, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads. Staff also turn off the background music, assist with calm animal encounters and even quiet the train ride to help travelers feel more comfortable during their visit.

Families looking for an adventure can also check Longleaf Trace, a scenic, 44-mile paved trail running from Downtown Hattiesburg to Sumrall, Bassfield, Carson and Prentiss. The trail is easy to navigate, and visitors are welcome to bring their own gear or rent a bike at the Trace Gateway.
