Family travelers to Switzerland this summer can meet and interact with the iconic Swiss dog, the Saint Bernard. Barryland Theme Park reopens in Martigny, in the heart of the Swiss Alpine ski region.
The centerpiece of the 4-acre park is a paw print-shaped building where families can interact with the dogs, watch them be groomed and learn about their training. Interactive exhibits illustrate the Saint Bernard’s 300-year history and unique characteristics.
At the heart of the center is providing a comfortable and spacious area for training and breeding St. Bernards in surroundings specially adapted to the species. The location is one in which St. Bernards are at home: in an open natural Alpine setting. In their new home, these dogs will have plenty of space to move about freely and have places to rest peacefully away from public view.
The living museum is designed as an interactive and educational center, where visitors learn all about these fascinating dogs, from the myths and legends surrounding its 300-year history to insights into its character.
The dog pawprint shape of the building gives it five distinct areas where visitors can discover the varied character traits of St. Bernards. These themed worlds are Barry Rescuer, Barry Friend, Barry Star, Barry Bon Vivant and Barry Playmate.
For kids, though, the highlight of the experience will be the chance to meet and interact with these famous dogs.

Salvaged stays are an emerging trend in travel that let family travelers enjoy a unique way to experience a destination. Rather than staying in a destination’s big-ticket resort hotel or a cookie-cutter vacation rental, travelers look to the world’s repurposed properties, like abandoned mills and defunct train stations-turned-hotels that have found new life. These renovated properties are a lesson in sustainability and give families a chance to discover a unique view of the history of a destination.
