With an abundance of ancient Mayan ruins, pristine beaches and downtown attractions, Tulum, Mexico, is a dream destination. Located on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula along the Caribbean coastline, Tulum boasts idyllic views in every direction.

Fly into Cancun International Airport for the most direct way into the resort town. The airport is located in Cancun Quintana Roo on the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula and is the second-busiest in the country. The ride from the airport to Tulum tends to be about 90-minutes via airport transfer or taxi cab.

Check into one of the many family-oriented hotels scattered throughout the province. Feel immersed in your surrounding at Maison Tulum Hotel and Cafe. Take advantage of their transfer service and open-air layout. With only seven rooms, Maison is a no-fuss budget hotel ranging from $90–130 a night.

Posada 06 Tulum is centrally located and perfect for tourists looking for an affordable rate in a great location. Just a few minutes from the Mayan ruins in the Tulum National Park, or Parque Nacional de Tulum, guests get a casual lodging experience nearby some of the top destinations in the town. Take a dip in the outdoor and indoor pool, enjoy spa treatments and discuss local tours and activities with the hotel concierge.

Take in the history surrounding your stay with ancient ruins and landmarks of the 13th century still standing today. El Castillo, or The Castle, is the largest and most prominent Mayan archeological site in Tulum and a must-see locale while in the city. The looming temple ruins represent the epicenter of the once flourishing, but small Mayan society.

Visiting Tulum’s National Park is a must for any history buff or beach lover. Stroll along the Tulum Ruins built and cohabited by the ancient Mayans. Tulum exists today as the only Mayan city built on a coast with sweeping views of the ocean.

Peruse the park grounds before heading down the cliffside to a nearby private beach. The pristine white sands and turquoise waters stand out against the dark grey-jagged cliffs lining the beach.

Once you’ve had enough of the sand and surf, head into town for some market shopping and quaint cafes. Stroll through town along the main road leading into the park area and explore the many local shops and restaurants. Pop into small bodegas and boutiques selling jewelry, hand-painted goods and lace.

No trip to Tulum would be complete without a visit to the Gran Cenote, an amazing freshwater cave and one of the largest in the area. Snorkel, swim and scuba dive through the limestone caves featuring incredible stalagmites and stalactites from centuries of development.

Enjoy the unending natural beauty, ancient culture and modern comforts of Tulum on your next family trip.
