Plan family travel to Virginia this spring and summer and experience the state’s fabulous gardens.
In its 98th year, Garden Club of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week takes place April 26–May 3. This statewide event offers visitors the opportunity to explore public gardens as well as private estates and gardens.
Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival
Also celebrating its 98th year, Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival hosts more than 50 events, from wine tastings to art fairs. This year’s event takes place April 25–May 4.
While many travelers flock to Washington, D.C., to witness its iconic cherry blossoms, Virginia offers visitors just as many blooms. Several gardens in northern Virginia host guided and self-guided tours. Visitors may also book a cruise out of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, along the Potomac River, for a different vantage point of the beautiful blooms away from the crowds.
Virginia is home to incredible wildflower blooms throughout the state. Drive along Blue Ridge Parkway to Poor Mountain and witness rare piratebush blooms. April is peak Virginia Bluebells season. Mountain laurel and Bright Flame azalea are also popular wildflower varieties on display.
Located outside of Harrisonburg, Virginia, this farm features a pick-your-own lavender experience, a self-guided audio tour and gift shop. The farm is also home to Purple Wolf Vineyard. Enjoy a tasting of wine infused with lavender from the farm.
