Multigenerational

Vacation rental management platform Vacasa recently revealed the results of its 2022 Ski & Winter Search report. The report analyzed Vacasa bookings in 15 popular ski markets in the United States and Canada. Here’s some information to consider before booking your next family travel ski trip.

“Summer has become synonymous with vacation, but winter getaways and ski trips in particular are a time-honored tradition that travelers look forward to each year. Using Vacasa data, we were able to look at not only how and when people are planning these vacations, but also the features and snowy — or snowbird — destinations they’re prioritizing,” said Caleb Donegan, vice president of marketing, Vacasa. “Our findings show that the change in seasons does influence travel behavior and vacation rental preferences, and both shifts have been especially visible within the broader context of the pandemic.”

Key takeaways from the report include:

Ski Trip Searching Starts in Fall

Search traffic to Vacasa’s ski-in/ski-out vacation rentals began increasing in October 2021, with about half of all traffic to that page in 2021 coming Oct. 1–Dec. 31, 2021.

As Nights Get Longer, So Do Trips

Winter ski season bookings are longer than in the summer ski season, with almost twice as many four- to seven-night trips in winter than summer.

Choosing Condos Over Cabins

Condos are the preferred accommodation in the analyzed ski markets, making up 55 percent of bookings.

Amenities for Convenience — and Coziness

The top five vacation rental amenities searched were ski-in/ski-out access, hot tub, washer and dryer, dog-friendly and fireplace.

Heading South for the Winter

Warm-weather destinations are seeing an increase for 2022, including cities in Arizona, Florida, Hawai’i, and Texas.
