Vancouver Folk Music Festival recently announced two free community events leading up to its annual event at Jericho Beach Park; this year’s festival will be held July 17–19.

On Saturday, July 11, the festival hosts the Maple Stage at Khatsahlano Street Party, one of Vancouver’s largest free community celebrations. Artistic director Fiona Black will emcee the day-long concert series featuring local performers who reflect the style of music one can expect at the festival. Rooftop Rhythms at Vancouver Public Library Central Branch on Thursday, July 16 will offer an intimate pre-festival experience downtown. El Balcón takes the stage at 2 p.m.

“Folk music has always been about bringing people together,” said Black. “And we want to celebrate that folk is for all. Our Festival is a celebration of music as a gathering place for communities, cultures and generations. And with these two events, I want to encourage everyone to come and learn more about the festival, listen to amazing music and share our excitement at what this year’s festival has in store.”

Vancouver Folk Music Festival is a weekend of internationally acclaimed artists, collaborative performances, food vendors, artisan markets and family programming. The festival opens Friday with performances beginning at 3 p.m. across three stages.

Heading to Poland? Make for This Family-Friendly Wrocław Hotel

Wrocław, Poland, might not be at the top of family travel lists, but the city is emerging as a popular destination for family summer travel. The destination sets itself aside from the more crowded European cities thanks to its walkable Old Town, colorful architecture, riverfront setting, cultural attractions, parks and family-friendly experiences.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.
