Destinations / Europe

This October, take the whole family to London and take time to not only enjoy the classic sites but also these scary fun Halloween events and experiences. Whether it’s a spooky-filled trip to the London Zoo or a step into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, here are the three can’t-miss experiences:

Try Your Hand at Defense Against the Dark Arts

Just a short train ride from London find the iconic Warner Bros. Studio, where all of the artifacts, props and scenes from the Harry Potter film franchise awaits. This fall, fans of the franchise can explore the darker side of the Wizarding World with the return of the studio’s Dark Arts feature. Other fun Halloween-special exhibits include the addition of 100 floating pumpkins in the Great Hall and vats of potions ingredients like troll snot. Be aware: followers of Voldemort stalk the sets, showcasing their scary wand choreography as seen in the films.

Celebrate Halloween with young ones at the favorite London Zoo. With a full line-up activities and events this season, guests have plenty of options to get into the spooky spirit. Head under the waves for a cool UV puppet show about the weird and unique creatures of the deep sea, embark on a trip through the Animal Extinction Graveyard or even come face to face with the endangered Rodrigues fruit bats. Kids wanting even more of a Halloween experience can attend Ghoul School and learn from the Zoological Society of London’s leading conservation scientists.

Follow the Pumpkins Across Belgravia

Looking for more of a low-key Halloween experience? Take the little ones of a fun pumpkin hunt between Knightsbridge and Buckingham Palace in the Belgravia neighborhood. This neighborhood launches a free Pumpkin Trail with colorful floral installations and a series of exciting Halloween events. Free ghost tours of the area’s haunted history, Halloween treats from standout bakeries like Bayley & Sage and a pumpkin carving competition comprise just some of the fun. And the winner of the contest even receives a beautiful luxury hamper!

What is a Salvaged Stay and How to Plan One

Salvaged stays are an emerging trend in travel that let family travelers enjoy a unique way to experience a destination. Rather than staying in a destination’s big-ticket resort hotel or a cookie-cutter vacation rental, travelers look to the world’s repurposed properties, like abandoned mills and defunct train stations-turned-hotels that have found new life. These renovated properties are a lesson in sustainability and give families a chance to discover a unique view of the history of a destination.
