Celebrate Veterans Day this year with family travel to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida, for a plethora of activities and patriotic adventures. Home to Eglin, the largest Air Force base in the United States, Destin has a deep connection to the military. The region serves as home to a variety of veteran-owned businesses.

Air Force Armament Museum
Air Force Armament Museum, the only one of its kind in the world, is dedicated to the collection, preservation and exhibition of artifacts and memorabilia associated with the Air Force Armament. One of the first things you notice upon entering is the array of aircraft on display, including the fastest plane ever built, SR-71 Blackbird.

Women Veterans Memorial
Earlier this year, the Women Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park was unveiled. The memorial features eight bronze statues in honor of women who made significant military service contributions during periods of major conflicts in U.S. history. From women who served in the Revolutionary War to women who served in the recent war in Afghanistan, each of the veterans
honored are displayed here.

Okaloosa County War Memorial
Located in the city’s downtown area, the Okaloosa County War Memorial showcases the names of Okaloosa County residents who died in service. A small fountain, dedicated in 2003, is also featured at the memorial.

All Veterans Memorial, Eglin Air Force Base
This memorial pays tribute to veterans from all wars, with a multicolored, stained-glass-style image sitting on a white wall. The memorial also showcases several bronze plaques. Leading up to the wall, a plaza features bricks containing the names of hundreds of different veterans.

Coast Guard Memorial, Coast Guard Station Destin
This memorial pays homage to Coast Guard members who “passed the bar” while in service to their country. The station honors Petty Officer 3rd Class Lonnie Jones, a machinery technician killed in the line of duty while responding to a search-and-rescue case.
