This year has much in store for lakeside Marquette County in Michigan. Located on the shores of Lake Superior, family travelers can find outdoor adventures, cultural experiences and more awaiting them this year and beyond.
Through March 9, families can watch drivers guide their vehicles across icy terrain at the exciting Upper Michigan Ice Races. Hosted at the oval ice track in Gwinn, the race sees ORVs and motorbikes slide and glide along the course. Racers of all ages are encouraged to participate.

137th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament
Held Jan. 19–21, this tournament is the country’s longest-running ski jumping tournament. Hosted by Ishpeming Ski Club at UP Nordic Ski Complex in Negaunee, the event invites visitors and locals to spot elite U.S. and international ski jumpers compete. The event also includes food trucks, concessions, bonfires and fireworks.
To see a true celebration of Finnish heritage, don’t miss the Heikki Lunta Festival (Feb. 2–3), an annual mythology event made for the fictional Hekki Lunta, the snow god who performs a dance to bring the snow. The weekend festival sees returning performances as well as Irontown Rail Jam and more.

Between Feb. 9 and 11, these winter games invite participants of all ages to compete in a variety of winter competitions. Winter sport events include downhill snow sports, luge, curling and even bowling.
Witness the U.S. Natural Track Luge team and club sliders on Feb. 24 take part in this thrilling race against elite athletes from around the world. Free to attend and watch, even kids will get a kick out of watching this thrilling event.
