Whether it’s overwhelming crowds, litter-filled beaches or party-loaded shores, some beaches just aren’t as family-friendly or safe for young kids as others. Then there’s factoring in lifeguard presence, local crime rates, shark activity and UV index levels … essentially, selecting the right beaches for family travel can be pretty important.
While some of the world’s most iconic and photogenic beaches may not always be the safest for families with young children, there are plenty of beaches around the world worth the visit.. These 20 were officially named safest for families:
- Saadiyat Beach, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
- Itztuzu Beach, Dalyan, Türkiye
- Kite Beach, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Porthcurno Beach, Porthcurno, United Kingdom
- Kalamies Beach, Paralimni Region, Cyprus
- Playa de Rodas, Vigo, Spain
- Playa de Muro, Mallorca, Spain
- Sveti Stefan Beach, Montenegro
- Praiai da Marinha, Algarve, Portugal
- Henderson Beach, Florida, United States
- La Pelosa Beach, Sardinia, Italy
- Elafonissi Beach, Crete, Greece
- Fig Tree Bay, Protaras, Cyprus
- Blue Lagoon, Comino, Malta
- Kep Beach, Cambodia
- Tulum Beach, Tulum, Mexico
- Cala Brandinchi, Olbia, Sardinia, Italy
- Cannon Beach, Oregon, United States
- La Concha Beach, San Sebastián, Spain
- Mandraki Beach, Hydra, Greece
Sveti Stefan Beach in Montenegro received the highest score for cleanliness, while all listed beaches but Blue Lagoon in Malta and Mandraki Beach in Greece have lifeguards. Kite Beach and Porthcurno Beach have the lowest average UV index of the list, and Porthcurno Beach also has the lowest crime activity. To no surprise, Henderson Beach in Florida has the highest number of shark attacks due to its warm waters.
The list was compiled by holiday travel provider House of Travel, incorporating factors like lifeguard presence, crowd levels, cleanliness, crime rates, shark activity and UV exposure.
