Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, Virginia, recently announced the return of Winter Wander Trail of Lights for its fifth consecutive season — perfect for family travelers. From Nov. 14 through Jan. 3, 2026, this illuminated trail features light displays, festive activities, dining and more. Coinciding with the trail will be the resort’s many holiday offerings.

Across half a mile, visitors can wander the illuminated lakeside to witness glowing installations. New this year is Glistening Grove, a display with a full walkway around Firefly Pond, with more than 700 dynamically lit light posts moving in harmony with a 20-minute musical composition. This exhibit alone features 75,000 pixels, making it one of the largest features on the trail.
The starting point of the trail, however, is the Welcome Tree, a 35-foot tree with an archway. Kids will love Heron’s Nest, a towering, 9-foot illuminated heron with a 14-foot wingspan and its frog companion, a lily pad and lotus flower. Lattice Lane, meanwhile, showcases a more than 200-year-old oak tree wrapped in lights with an artificial root structure on the ground.

The trail leads visitors to The Enchantment District, presented by Sheehy Lexus of Richard, where live music and attractions await. This includes a group of fairytale-inspired interactive LED dancers for Nutcracker in Lights and Candy Cane Lane. The district also features visits from Santa, outdoor games, fire pits, food trucks and drink options for all ages. On select nights, the district hosts Elevation Illumination, a drone light show with 200 synchronized drones.

Boar’s Head Resort also takes part in the holiday fun with a Holiday Watercolor Workshop on Nov. 23 and Dec. 7, and gingerbread workshops Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Have breakfast with Santa at the resort Dec. 6, 13 and 20, which also includes a carriage ride.
