There are so many great reasons to plan a fall trip to Western Massachusetts, it can be difficult to narrow things down to a realistic itinerary. To make things a bit easier, we’ve compiled a list of the top three things to do in the area your family won’t want to miss this fall.
Leaf Peeping with a Fun Twist
Head to the Berkshires for a unique twist on leaf-peeping. At Berkshires East Mountain Resort, you can take a chairlift ride up the mountainside. The Berkshires are already one of the most beautiful destinations in the state, but, during fall, the trees are awash with brilliant colors. While there, you’ll find plenty of outdoor adventures for the family, like zip lining and riding the mountain coaster back down the mountain.
Experience Some of New England’s Finest Museums
The city of Springfield is home to some great art museums, all conveniently located in one area. The little ones (and even the not-so-little ones) will love the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum, but if you want an exhibit that brings the fall landscape to life, you should visit George Walter Vincent Smith Museum. The latest exhibit, “In Nature: Two Centuries of American Landscape Painting,” features famous artists’ renderings of the North American landscape, along with beautiful scenes from around the world. And if the little ones get tired of being inside museums, there is always Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden in the center courtyard, surrounded by all the museums, where they can play among their favorite Seuss characters.
Head to a Farm for Full Fall Experience
New England’s farms are legendary when it comes to fall. Colorful leaves, harvests and all the fun that goes along with them make a visit to a farm an obvious choice for a family. Silver Bell Farm, in the town of Monson, has plenty of activities for families throughout the season. There are games for the kids, tractor-pulled wagon rides, fall treats like apple cider donuts and plenty of fall produce. As the Christmas season approaches, there will be more events to look forward to, like Santa Story Time and Silver Bell Nights, where the family can experience a holiday light show and a visit with Santa.
