New this year, Three Nights of Lights is a three-day festival of citywide events incorporating the theme of light. Check out WaterFire, a bonfire arts events, Dec. 1–3. Illuminate PVD lights up City Hall with massive snowflakes projected on the building, as well as five-foot illuminated snowflakes on light poles throughout the city. The annual tree lighting at City Hall takes place Dec. 2.

Christmas at the Capitol features dozens of decorated Christmas trees throughout the building. This year’s theme is Merry Prairie Christmas. South Dakota’s official Christmas tree will be decorated by three of the state’s Shriners Chapters: El Riad (Sioux Falls), Yelduz (Aberdeen) and Naja (Deadwood). Other South Dakota non-profits and organizations decorate the rest of the trees. The light ceremony takes place Nov. 22 and the trees remain on display through Dec. 26.

Belhaven University, located in Jackson, hosts one of the city’s most unique annual holiday traditions: The Belhaven Singing Christmas Tree. Since 1933, the university’s choir wears white robes and reflective accessories and assembles on a tiered structure, designed to resemble a Christmas tree. The choir delights the audience with a performance of classic Christmas carols.

United Continues Its Global Expansion
United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia.
