Plan a nostalgic getaway for your next family travel trip. According to a Booking.com survey, nostalgic getaways are a key travel trend for 2023. Here are a few destinations to relive the pre-digital days of family vacations.
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Albuquerque is located on the longest urban stretch of Route 66, the famed highway spanning eight states. The city honors the iconic highway’s golden age with historic and revitalized hotels and restaurants. Opt for a stay at El Vado Motel or its sister property Monterey Motel. El Vado first opened in 1937 and reopened in 2018 following a major renovation. Monterey Motel reopened following a renovation in 2021. Both properties boast mid-century modern décor.
Bardstown, Kentucky
This historic downtown was named “Most Beautiful Small Town in America” by USA Today. The charming downtown boasts boutiques, restaurants, bars and galleries. Book a stay at the Bardstown Motor Lodge. This recently opened property offers retro, motel-style accommodations within a contemporary setting. Enjoy the on-site fire pit, pool, poolside bar and rec room with board games and foosball.
Houston, Texas
Houston is home to historic neighborhoods filled with award-winning restaurants, shopping, nightlife, a vibrant art scene and hotels. Book a stay at boutique Heights House Hotel. The property features vintage murals, a spacious pool with cabana, and throwback bar and lounge serving classic cocktails.
Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
This waterside city boasts more than 5,000 acres of lakeshore. Spend time in the great outdoors exploring the lakeside and parks. Stroll through downtown’s charming shops and restaurants. Stay at Maxwell Mansion, a renovated historic mansion, carriage house and stables. The property boasts curated vintage décor.
