Destinations / North America

Oahu’s Turtle Bay Resort invites family travelers and mermaid enthusiasts to take part in the resort’s latest Only at Turtle Bay Experience: Kariel’s Mermaid Academy. On this adventure, Kariel the mermaid shares tales about her oceanic adventures while teaching little ones how to move and swim in their own unique, swimmable mermaid finds.

Children aged 5–12 join Mermaid Kariel poolside at her life-sized clamshell throne for a session at Kariel’s Mermaid Academy. Each session lasts 45 minutes and features an immersive, hands-on experience for each kid to enjoy.

The experience, priced at $150 per guest, includes a mermaid tail designed by Kariel, as well as a certificate confirming each little mermaid’s new status as a Turtle Bay Resort Mermaid upon completion of the experience. Sessions run 4:15–5 p.m., with just 12 reservations per class, allowing each kid to enjoy one-on-one time with Mermaid Kariel.

A popular feature of Turtle Bay Resort since 2009, Mermaid Kariel curates family-friendly mermaid shows and classes and designs and handcrafts her own mermaid tails, skins and swimmable costumes. Also working with a national brand to innovate swim products for both kids and adults, Mermaid Kariel has received numerous awards for her work.

Outside of Kariel’s Mermaid Academy, guests of Turtle Bay Resort can enjoy luxury accommodations, dining options across six eateries and restaurants, resort activities, outdoor adventures and wellness treatments.
