No matter the time of year, family travel to Virginia’s historic towns of Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown are fulfilling experiences. Come winter, however, these destinations transform into magical and festive places with a calendar full of activities. Embrace the 12 days of Christmas in these towns this holiday season.
Nov. 29–Dec. 1, Dec. 5–8, 12–15 and 19–22, Williamsburg’s own Christmas Market invites visitors to stroll through 40 vendor chalets, take photos with Santa, embark on a train ride and enjoy live entertainment. Located on Court Street, this market also features gluhwein (warm, spiced wine), craft beers, Christmas music, fire pits and tasty market food from local restaurants.

Yorktown Christmas Tree Lighting
Head to Victory Monument Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. to experience live music, including a live performance by the Fifes and Drums of York Town, and the lighting of a 24-foot Tannenbaum tower tree. Santa and Mrs. Claus are even set to make an appearance.
Open daily, families can take in the sights, sounds and smells of the holidays with time on the ice. Located a short walk from Colonial Williamsburg Resorts hotels, this ice pavilion also offers coffee, hot cider and more.
On Dec. 7, 14 and 21, look to the skies to witness fireworks. This tradition dates back to the 18th century when the firing of guns and lighting of fireworks celebrated events like the birthday of a reigning sovereign, military victories or the arrival of a new colonial governor. These weekends also promise musical performances and fun decorations.

On Yorktown’s waterfront, expect caroling around illuminated braziers, a musical performance by the Fifes and Drums of York Town and complimentary hot cider, all available Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Then, at 7 p.m., boats round out the evening, making their way down the river in a show of lights.
Other can’t-miss holiday events in the area include Mistletoe Market (Dec. 14) in Riverwalk Landing, Christmastide in Virginia (Dec. 20–31), An Enchanted Evening on Main Street (Dec. 13), Yorktown Christmas Market on Main (Dec. 7–8) and The Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce 2024 Believe Christmas Parade (Dec. 8).
