Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia’s historic Old City neighborhood invites family travelers on a journey of discovery for Black History Month.
In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the museum’s current special exhibit, The Declaration’s Journey, includes artifacts from key Black historical figures who referenced the Declaration of Independence in their civil rights pursuit.

Special events take place throughout the month, including an annual forum about race (Feb. 7), a joint lecture on revolutionaries (Feb. 25), daily gallery talks, guided tours and performances.
“Celebrating stories of people of African descent – their diversity, complexity, and contributions to our nation – is something we do every day at the Museum.” said Adrienne Whaley, director of education and community engagement, Museum of the American Revolution. “But we are especially excited to lift these stories up during the nation’s Semiquincentennial year and to use the documents and objects in ‘The Declaration’s Journey’ to put these stories in conversation with a global history of the Declaration of Independence.”
