Passengers sailing the seven seas with Italian-based Costa Cruises can expect to be wowed by both the scenery and the cuisine, naturally inspired by Italy’s finest culinary delights. The various menus offered on the ships are guaranteed to satisfy any diner.
In April 2017, the cruise line launched a new menu by seven-time Michelin-starred chef Bruno Barbieri, taking guests on a “journey for the emotions” with the dishes. Beginning with an antipasto and ending with dessert, Barbieri’s menu includes dishes such as a salad of prawns with endive heart and minced Mediterranean pesto; garganelli pasta with swordfish, tomato and basil on a cream of cannellini bean and strong ricotta; and salmon steak with a potato crust.
Costa’s corporate chefs debuted menus for vegans and vegetarians in 2015, delivering new combinations and techniques with an Italian touch. Available for guests on each of the company’s ships, menus range from breakfast and dinner to appetizers to dessert. The wide array of options includes hamburger made with kidney beans; cauliflower and fig tempura; and porcini mushroom and savoy cabbage soup.
To honor its Italian heritage, Costa Cruises recently celebrated World Pasta Day on Oct. 25, serving two special dishes created by two international chefs from the most recent Barilla Pasta World Championship. In addition, there were activities onboard dedicated to the staple food of Italian cuisine and a pasta party.
Of course, Costa Cruises doesn’t neglect its wine list, which pairs perfectly with Italian cuisine. In May 2017, the cruise line and La Banca del Vino launched a new, onboard wine list. Available fleet-wide, the list includes wines from Italy’s 19 regions, Australia, France, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain and the United States. The more than 100 labels are divided into four categories: sustainable wines, organic wines, territory-specific wines and wines paired with specific Italian regional dishes. Cheers!
